If your windshield is chipped, make sure you get it fixed as soon as you can. The chip can turn into a serious problem if not fixed. The primary layer may cause further damage with time. As a result, you may have to pay for the costly replacement. Given below are the steps you can follow to repair your car windshield yourself.
#1: Get the Tools and Supplies
Given below are the tools and supplies you need for the job:
#2: Prep the Windshield
Your first move is to get the chip and windshield ready for the repair. You can use an alcohol pad for cleaning and scribing out the loose glass particles from the chipped area.
Now, fix the mirror on the internal area of the windshield so you can monitor the chip from different angles.
#3: Create a Seal
Make sure your center the bridge or any other tool on the chip. Basically, your goal is to make a seal over the chip area that has no glass.
#4: Drop Resin
Once you have made a seal over the area, your next move is to drop a few drops of the resin ( 3 to 8 drops are enough) into the area.
#5: Inject the Chip
You can push the resin into the windshield chip with the injector. Look into the mirror to see how it goes. Keep monitoring it while you release air and re-inject as needed. Let it sit for around 10 minutes.
If the area is exposed to direct sunlight, don’t forget to keep it covered. The resin should not be cured prematurely. After a few minutes, you can take off the bridge.
#6: Fill in The Missing Glass
Your job is almost over. However, you still need to fill in the missing glass of the chip. To identify the area, make sure you look for the spot that has no glass. Following this step is important if you want the glass to look smooth once again.
Grab the pit filer and fill in the impact point. Dropping a few drops of filler will be enough. Get a plastic curing and put it on the area. For proper curing, make sure you let it be exposed to direct sunlight for a few minutes.
#7: Scrape the Filler
Get a razor blade and scrape off all the extra pit filler. Don’t touch the impacted area as the razor will cause damage to it. If you want even better results, you can apply some polish to the impacted area.
This type of windshield repair can stand the test of time. However, many variables can have an impact on the life of the repair, such as the temperature, location, dirt, moisture, and age. However, as far as the structure is concerned, the glass will be back in shape.
